The BONNEC TIMPANO is our state of the art remote control pre-amplifier.
It is designed to set a new standard in sonic performance
and it comes in an attractive slimline case.
The TIMPANO is available in two options, either line only or
a Moving coil / Moving magnet version. The MM and MC inputs are built
to the highest possible standard and account for a 30% cost difference
for this version. The Phono input of the amp allows the option to vary
cartridge loading. This ensures correct matching with the widest range of cartridges.
Other inputs include four other line inputs and two tape inputs.
The line stage features a unique circuit design using discrete
transistors of highest linearity. The pre-amplifier has three sets
of very low impedance outputs that allow the use of longer interconnect
cables between pre-amp and power-amp. So far the amp has matched well
with a wide range of other manufacturers power-amps but the best results
are obtained when it is matched with the BONNEC ALTO. Remember an amplifier
is only as good as the source material fed to it. To this end only the best
source components should be used with our amplifiers.
The TIMPANO pre-amplifier contains over 1000 hand assembled components.
All the amplifier stages are designed to achieve very high linearity.
Care has been taken to ensure that as few as possible of these components
are actually located in the signal path. Most of the components being
there to support the signal during its passage through the amp.
The performance of any pre-amplifier is greatly influenced by
the number and quality of its power supplies. To this end great
care has been taken to ensure that at every stage of the signal path
has its own local, very low noise power supply. On the Phono version of
the TIMPANO there are four separate transformers; two of which supply
the Phono stage alone. These in turn supply 22 separate power supplies
located at strategic points throughout the circuit path.
For the end user we have made the operation of the amp in keeping
with its simple appearance. The large easily read display allows
easy use via remote control from the other end of even the largest room.
The small button acts as a menu selector and the large rotary knob then
carries out the desired control function.
The remote control system uses the RC5 standard with the microprocessor
control circuit shutting down when not receiving commands. This 'silent control'
ensures that there can be no interference between the digital control side and
the delicate audio signal. We have even given the control circuitry its own
transformer !
